Gache — Nearly Two Centuries of Gibraltar History

Three paintings commissioned to celebrate the changing storefronts of Gache, a family business whose history in Gibraltar dates back to 1830, ahead of its 200th anniversary in 2030.

From its early work in watchmaking and clockmaking to its established reputation as an optician, Gache has been part of Gibraltar’s commercial life for generations. Each painting captures a different chapter of that story through the shop’s architecture, signage and window displays.

The paintings accompanied Not Just a Matter of Time, a book by Richard J. M. Garcia exploring the history of the Gache family and their business. Together, the artwork and book celebrate a family legacy spanning nearly two centuries.
