Street Child World Cup 2022

Event run by UK based NGO Street Child United where NGO’s from all around the world who work with street connected young people were invited to take part in a two week football tournament and arts festival. During the two weeks there were regular sessions for the young people where they were supported in their campaign for one of the following rights: access to education, birth registration, protection from violence and gender equality.

I coordinated the Arts Programme which consisted of:

A welcome session arts activity involving a world map and flags.

Two arts sessions : one of which was a flag making session and the other a collage workshop based around identity.

Cultural performances whereby each team shared a part of their culture with all the other participating teams. These performances were predominantly songs or dances from their cultures.

Coordinating drumming workshops for the young people.

Coordinating an arts exhibition to open at the end of the event showcasing the work created during the weeks by a team of artists.

Final exhibition in Katara Cultural Village after the two week event. A team of artists documented the event. Their works were on display in this exhibition as well as the artworks made by the participants.

Workshop 2 - Identity with Maryam Faraj al Suwaidi.

This workshop asked participants as a team to make 3 tiered, collage artworks with each tier representing a different part of their identity. Tier 1 was their past identity, Tier 2 their present identity and Tier 3 their future aspirations.

Team of artist students from Bath Spa University creating a world map where SCWC participants left notes about how they were feeling and what they hoped to get out of this event.
